The environment and how we impact it are important to us here at DAS Demo. We’re committed to taking the necessary steps to make the Earth a little bit greener each day, so you can imagine our excitement when we learned that Newsweek recently named Toyota the world's greenest automaker. Let's take a closer look at why.

The Newsweek Green Rankings

Each year, Newsweek releases its Green Rankings list, an analysis of the environmental performance of the world’s largest publicly traded companies along eight metrics. Not only was Toyota ranked #16 overall out of the 500 companies on the list, but it earned the honor of being named the “Best in Industry Global” in the automobiles category.

Toyota earned its ranking in part to its numerous hybrid and eco-friendly options, including the hydrogen fuel cell Mirai and the newest iteration of the ever-popular Prius, the Prius Prime, as well as its commitment to eco-friendly spaces like its net-zero energy dealership in Oregon and its LEED Platinum-certified headquarters in Texas (pictured above).

Always striving to do better

Obviously, we aren't the only people excited about Toyota's ranking. As Jim Lentz, chief executive officer, Toyota Motor North America, said:

Toyota is proud to be recognized by Newsweek as the world’s top green automaker and as a leader among global companies. We are continually working to develop and improve technologies for our operations and vehicles. Our aim is to reduce the impact on the environment, while maintaining affordability for our customers, and position our company as an industry leader in sustainable mobility.

Part of the Toyota's commitment to the environment

This isn't the first time Toyota has demonstrated its commitment to going green. In 2016, for example, Toyota was ranked first in the inaugural Carbon Clean 200 rankings, a list of the world’s largest publicly listed companies that generate revenue through clean energy products. Additionally, Toyota is working towards the 2050 Toyota Environmental Challenge, a series of environmental goals that will not only make it a net-zero company but one that actively creates a positive change in the world.

We can't wait to see what Toyota will do next.
